Aspen Santa Fe Ballet x 3

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet is known for their strong, diverse repertoire with commissioned works from the top choreographers of the world. Their program on Tuesday, March 8 at the State Theatre is no different. But what to expect from these three diverse choreographers? Here's my insight:

Uneven: This is a brand new work by Spanish choreographer Cayetano Soto. Trios of sleek couples dance to a cello score, with angular limbs. The dancers come together briefly for a cohesive form before they're off again. Fast-paced and impulsive, this piece is an energetic and propelling start to the program.

In Hidden Seconds: Choreographed by the daring Nicolo Fonte, I am personally most excited about this piece, with abstract, yoga-inspired movement.  At times jarring and yet equally full of free movement and athleticism, this piece will mesmerize those who appreciate the pure physicality of dance.

Red Sweet: Ballet lovers, Red Sweet is for you. Set to classical music, this is the most balletic of the three works, by Finnish choreographer Jorma Elo. The piece plays with similarities to classic ballet choreographers such as Balanchine through long lines and other traditional formations.  However, Elo effortlessly weaves in his own quirky movement, such as drawn-out punctuated poses to make this piece  their "crowd-pleaser" with something for everyone.

See you at the State!
