Larry Ochs Sax & Drumming Core

Oct 09, 2009

If you were at the Whole last night, you, too, heard the crazy-free jazz beats of Larry Ochs Sax & Drumming Core. The earthy sounds from the Los Angeles-based Ochs and his drummers melded with the urban accents from Natuski and Tamura to bring something fresh to our craving jazz palettes. Found something to talk about at the show?  What'd you think of The Whole's atmosphere?

It was fun to be back @ the whole: a little grungy & dark. Good place for jazz. But where was the turnout? Why not a rush line. Students arent going to pay $35 & they didnt. I dont think there was 1 there. But some may have @ $5 & gotten to hear some pretty crazy stuff. I would vote for a rush line @ all the Northrop jazz events. Lets fill up these venues & have some fun.

Students can get $10 tickets for any Northrop Dance or Music show on the U of M campus at any time. Currently our rush ticket program is just for Staff, faculty, and students. Thanks for the suggestions and spread the word about student tickets, its a great deal!

I super-enjoyed the concert. It was wonderful; I think the whole/northrop should collaborate on more free jazz stuff. i've seen great stuff at the whole: jim carroll, tracie morris, some really good AACM-style jazz, etc., and would love to see more of that kind of music on campus. Larry and his musicians were superb, and very unassuming and "real."
