Summer at Northrop withdrawal

Dear Summer at Northrop,I rushed into work this morning, eager to write today’s band on the chalkboards, and realized I didn’t have anything to write on, or for. You were gone, the chalkboards have been cleaned off, taken apart, and put into storage, and I am having Summer at Northrop withdrawal. While I won’t miss my nose getting sunburned or sweating under the noon sun, I will miss the extended lunch hour outside, unplugging from the grind of class and work. I will miss the excitement and rush from seeing 300+ people at the evening concerts. And I will miss the free grub from UDS, Jimmy John’s, and Qdoba, and all those giveaways. But most of all, I will miss the music you brought to us, the great local bands that we all love like the lovable Irish-hipsters from Romantica, the solid alt-rock sound of The Alarmists, the saucy pride of Maria Isa, soul-wrenching vocals of Alison Scott, and irresistible dance moves at Charanga Tropical. But I know that lovers like us can never be kept apart. While you must go away for the cold, dreary Minnes-oh-ta winter months, I will wear my Save Summer at Northrop pin proudly, a symbol of our love. I will write cute-sy things on Save Summer at Northrop’s Facebook wall to the extent that all our friends get sick of it and hide us in their news feed. I will harass all of my friends to sign the discussion board on your Facebook page, and I will fight to keep funding for you. Because summer at the U of M should never be without free, outdoor, local music. Missing you already,Melissa WrayNorthrop Marketing Intern and U of M Student
