This Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, American Ballet Theatre will be performing Giselle to kick-off Northrop’s Grand Reopening weekend. While I could go on about the countless reasons to not miss this trio of performances, I’ve narrowed it down to the top 5 reasons why you should definitely be in a seat this weekend!
1. Northrop’s Grand Reopening
This truly is a once in a lifetime experience! For the past three years, Northrop has been under renovation. This Friday, we open our doors to the public for the first time in three years, to a beautifully revitalized and energized building. With new collaborative spaces, gorgeous performance halls, and restored grandeur, Northrop will take your breath away. (For a sneak peek of the new spaces, visit our website here.) What better way to celebrate than with American Ballet Theatre?
Need more of a reason? ABT is one of the best dance companies in the WORLD, with decades of history, classical repertoire, beautiful dancers, and amazing leadership. ‘Nuff said.
Everyone loves a storybook ballet. Giselle is one of the most revered classical ballets, a heartbreaking story of love, revenge, and loss, chronicling the story of Giselle and Albrecht.
4. Live Orchestra
We aren’t wasting any time putting our orchestra pit to use! This weekend, the pit will be filled with a full orchestra to bring Giselle to life with bravado and fervor.
5. The Dancers
The ABT dancers are some of the most exquisite in the world, and we’re lucky enough to have them here at Northrop! Casting for each night in the roles of Giselle and Albrecht are as follows:
- Fri, Apr 4: Principals Paloma Herrera and Cory Stearns
- Sat, Apr 5: Isabella Boylston (soloist) and James Whiteside (principal) are debuting in these roles
- Sun, Apr 6: Hee Seo (principal) and Jared Matthews (soloist)
