Welcome to this week’s Northrop MOVES Online. As many of you know, Wednesday we were to close out Northrop’s 2019-20 Season in grand style, by welcoming The State Ballet of Georgia in a rare U.S. appearance. The last time that this world-renowned company visited Northrop was in 2008. I was traveling with them as their tour manager and was so excited to have a stop in my home state of Minnesota. Northrop was the last stop on the tour and the company performed two different programs—one of which was particularly magical. Artistic Director Nina Ananiashvili, heralded as one of the greatest ballerinas of all time, danced Giselle. I remember how very special that night was—the depth of emotion she portrayed and the way an electric energy filled the air. I also remember vividly how warmly we were welcomed by the patrons and the staff at Northrop. Having toured with the company through cities and venues from coast to coast, I was so proud to see that Minnesotans truly are the best of people. While we are unable to gather in person to share the performance by The State Ballet of Georgia, we have assembled a very special video message for you, including curtain speeches by Artistic Director Nina Ananiashvili and Northrop Director of Programming Kristen Brogdon, along with a short sampling of music from Mila Vocal Ensemble, local musicians who were previously scheduled to perform in Northrop’s lobby, as well as information about a digital pop-up library exhibit in connection with the dance company. Additionally, we are working to reschedule The State Ballet of Georgia performance very soon, so stay tuned for more information on Northrop’s 2020-21 Season announcement.

I have been continuously amazed by the innovative, creative ways that artists are sharing their work with audiences during this unusual time. I hope you are following Northrop’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram social media channels for Daily Inspiration posts.

I look forward with great anticipation to the day when we can throw open our doors and welcome you back in person. In the meantime, please stay safe, healthy, connected, and inspired.

Gratefully, Kari Schloner Director of Northrop
