This 90-minute class is intended for intermediate/advanced dancers and will focus on Horton technique, the foundation of many of Alvin Ailey’s works, including “Revelations.” This class, available to participants thanks to a partnership between Northrop and TU Dance, will be led by Alvin Ailey company dancer Yannick Lebrun and will begin with warm-up exercises, followed by combinations at the center and across the floor that integrate Horton studies, such as lateral stretches, stags and more. 

Cost: $20. This class is free for University of Minnesota students, faculty and staff. This class has a capacity of 34 students and registration is required. Participants will receive a 50% off discount code to attend the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performance on Saturday, April 18, 7:30 p.m. or Sunday, April 19, 2 p.m. at Northrop.
 

Teaching Artist Bio

Yannick Lebrun (Cayenne, French Guiana) began training in his native country at the Adaclam School under the guidance of Jeanine Verin. After graduating high school in 2004, he moved to New York City to study at The Ailey School as a scholarship student. Lebrun was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2011, and in 2013 France-Amérique magazine highlighted him as one of the 50 most talented French people in the United States. In November 2016, Lebrun was a guest performer with The Royal Ballet in Wayne McGregor’s “Chroma.” In 2019, he choreographed “Saa Magni,” his first work for Ailey II. For American Ballet Theatre Studio Company, he created “Lora” in 2021 and “Human” in 2024. He was a nominee for the 2024 U.K. Critic’s Circle National Dance Award for outstanding male modern performance in “Dancing Spirit.” Lebrun was a member of Ailey II and joined Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2008.

TU Dance is located at 2121 University Ave West, St. Paul, MN 55114, directly behind a Subway sandwich shop in a red brick building.

Public transit, the center is 2.5 blocks east of the Raymond Avenue LRT Station on the Green Line.
By car, the center is convenient to I-94 and both downtowns. 

Parking:  Slow down when you see the Subway sign as the parking lot is the one right before the Subway lot. 

  • There is parking directly in front of TU, as well as along the wall/fence across TU. 
  • Please do not park in the Subway lot, as they may tow. 
  • Accessible parking and wheelchair ramp access is available directly in front of our main entrance on the building’s east side.
