On Tue, Apr 7, Director of Northrop Kari Schloner sent a version of this email outlining the many ways to stay connected with us and the artists we have presented:

Dear Northrop community,

Since our first COVID-19-related event cancellation on Mar 15, I have missed seeing you at Northrop. These past few weeks have presented us with challenges previously unseen in our lifetime. Many of us have been struggling with feelings of isolation, anxiety, and helplessness. The coronavirus has changed the way we work; the way we interact with family, friends, and with all of society; and it has affected most every way that we live our lives. And while everyone is experiencing this moment in their own unique way, we all need support.

That knowledge has inspired me to really reflect on Northrop’s role as an arts presenter. The work we do is rooted in the belief that the arts are essential to the human experience. I find that to be particularly true in times of crisis. In the best of times, the arts inspire us, enrich our lives, expand our perspective of the world around us, and give us a creative platform where intellect and emotion collide. In the worst of times, the arts build resilience when we feel weak, heal us when we are broken, and connect us when we feel isolated. The very essence of Northrop’s role as an arts presenter is that of a connector—bringing together arts and education, connecting artists and audiences, and bridging our inner and outer worlds. While the ways in which these connections are made must be adapted to our current situation, it has never been more important that the connections continue to be made. In the coming weeks, there are several ways that you will be able to connect with us and with the artists you have come to love through your experiences at Northrop.

Many of you will remember that during Northrop’s renovation, we continued to present artists outside of our physical building in a three-year series called Northrop MOVES. Now, we bring you Northrop MOVES Online. Each Tuesday you will receive an e-mail from me with updates on what is happening at Northrop along with links to some of the incredible virtual experiences that Northrop artists are making available to you digitally. If you haven't already done so, please subscribe to the Northrop Email Club to receive this weekly communication.

Each weekday you will find Daily Inspirations on Northrop's FacebookTwitter and Instagram channels. These Daily Inspirations are curated by Kristen Brogdon, our director of programming, to keep you motivated, moving, and connected! If you haven’t already, please like and follow our FacebookTwitter and Instagram channels. Northrop will collect these Daily Inspirations each week and post to the blog as a weekly wrap up.

Along with the Daily Inspirations, follow Northrop’s social media channels for additional interactive, educational, and positive stories and resources.

As part of the University of Minnesota, I have been in awe of the ways our University community has found to adapt, innovate, and lead through this time of crisis. Northrop will share some of these stories with the #UMNProud on social channels, and we also invite you to explore U of M stories, insights, and expertise to support you during the COVID-19 crisis. I hope you will find them as moving as I do.

Additionally, you can stay updated on the latest Northrop operational news on our website page dedicated to the impact of COVID-19.

I look forward to connecting with each of you in new and exciting ways over the upcoming weeks and in the meantime, please stay safe, healthy, connected and inspired.

Gratefully,Kari SchlonerDirector of Northrop
