Get involved, build your résumé, make connections! Join the Northrop Summer Music Festival Student Advisory/Curatorial Committee!

Who and what: We are gathering a team of motivated students who will be involved in the advising and planning of this diverse student concert series (previously known as Summer at Northrop) presenting local musicians and artists. The Committee will work directly with Northrop Concerts and Lectures to review the goals, activities, and financial arrangements for the Festival and make decisions on funding and artistic selection as well as co-sponsorships. They will also garner the professional expertise of the Northrop Staff and learn from hands-on experience. We will work with students to gain experience in their area of interest, including marketing, budgeting, booking, production, research gathering, and day-of-show preparation and execution.

Additionally, students will be encouraged to attend as many summer performances as possible to review and suggest improvements and new ideas for programming, publicity, and other details surrounding the series. This will be done by gathering student input through surveys and other research. We also encourage the Committee to see their work and research put into action by presenting to the Student Service Fee Committee for funding requests. This is a great and rare opportunity for savvy U of M students to get involved and gain experience in planning and executing a music series of this proportion, and to make connections in the Twin Cities area! A great résumé builder!

When: the majority of the preparation will start between mid February/early March through May. The execution, production, attendance, research, etc, will take place during the actual Summer Session (May through July). Students can choose to be involved during the Spring Semester only, the Summer Session only, or both.
