Hip-Hop Names of the Not-Too-Distant Future

This July 13, the Northrop Plaza will be shaking the Mall area with crazy beats and the best upcoming talent Minneapolis hip-hop has to offer, thanks to the Summer Music Festival at Northrop (full line-up here).

Although MaLLy has only recently come to be a major name in the Minneapolis hip-hop scene, he is hardly a newcomer. He has released 2 full-length albums, in addition to smaller collections since 2007, including his most recent one, The Last Great, this past May with The Sundance Kid. It is this album that has garnered him the most attention, receiving him the title of Minneapolis’s Best Hip-Hop Artist of 2012 by City Pages. In the last two years he has both played and emceed Minnesota’s own Soundset Festival at Canturbury Park alongside Brother Ali and Atmosphere, and appears to be on the verge to be the next big artist to emerge from Minneapolis.

Playing after MaLLy is DJ Fundo, most well-known for being fellow Minneapolis artist Prof’s touring DJ, but also from the ever-popular Get Cryphy dance nights at First Avenue along with Plain Ole Bill, Jimmy 2 Times, and Last Word. These nights have grown to be a Mainroom phenomenon over the course of the past 5 years, spinning sick beats from today’s biggest artists as well as local ones.

MaLLy, Culture Cry Wolf, and DJ Fundo will be holding down the Northrop Plaza FOR FREE on Friday, July 13th for the Summer Music Festival at Northrop. In addition, there’ll be free Jimmy John’s samples and Raising Cane’s lemonade and sweet tea (while supplies last) and a raffle for food and SMFN gear! This is the must-see show of the summer so come get down with us!
