"Wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent, and at times breathtakingly daring." - Time Magazine
Acclaimed as one of the most transcendent voices of contemporary violin, Regina Carter brings her tenacious force to the Ted Mann stage to coincide with the release of her upcoming album, Reverse Thread. Consisting of music from the African Diaspora, Reverse Thread is her latest contribution to the world of contemporary jazz offering a new perspective on music from Mali, Senegal and other areas. This unique evening includes some traditional pieces from the Jews living in Uganda, a piece by Ayub Ogada (from the movie The Constant Gardener) as well as some original material and earlier repertoire.
Known for her original compositions and collaborations with many jazz greats, Carter illuminates the stage with her unique fusion of world music and classical violin, interweaving instruments from Mali (the kora) and Senegal (powerful drum rhythms). Carter's quartet brings together Will Holshouser (accordion), Chris Lightcap (bass), Alvester Garnett (drums), and special guest from Mali, Yocouba Sissoko (kora).
