Havana-based Malpaso Dance Company will open our Northrop season with a program that celebrates international collaboration. These sleek, sexy dancers turn up the island heat in an Afro-Cuban work by Ronald K. Brown, yet are equally fluent in the delicate, ethereal style of Aszure Barton’s touching Indomitable Waltz. For the Malpaso dancers, it’s a Minnesota debut—but for Artistic Director Osnel Delgado, it’s a reunion with Minneapolis-based Zenon Dance Company, who hosted his McKnight International residency. Zenon will join the program to perform Delgado’s Coming Home, the baseball-inspired work he created just for them in 2014. Together, these two companies offer an exciting dance “double-header” for our season opener.
Malpaso Dance Company is an Associate Company of Joyce Theater Productions.
