Giving Thanks for Dance

This Thanksgiving, in the midst of stuffing your turkey (and
face), remember to take time to be thankful for something in your life. I will
be giving thanks for Northrop, and what
it's given me in the four and half years I've worked here, including attending
countless Northrop
Dance
performances and getting to know our patrons and supporters. Here are
my five reasons to be thankful for Northrop:

1.) Northrop presents world-class
dance
in Minneapolis, something that no one else in town really does to the
same extent. We are committed to presenting the very best  international and national companies and
phenomenal artists.

2.) Northrop presents a spectrum of dance, from classic
ballet (such as the Minnesota-favorite, Houston Ballet), to
the edgier performances (like the sexy, dark Snow White production from Ballet Preljocaj),
to the visionary cultural ambassadors (Alvin
Ailey
).

3.) The enthusiasm of our Director Ben Johnson translates to
his dedication to finding new work and leading all star companies that aren't
being widely presented by the majority of arts presenters. Just this season, we
have three Minnesota debuts and a U.S. premiere!

4.) It's rare to find a larger non-profit so wide-reaching
in community engagement, partnerships, and educational opportunities. Just so
far this season, we've partnered with the Twin Cities Scottish Club, Project
SUCCESS, Macy's Downtown Minneapolis, Hennepin County Library - Minneapolis
Central, Mixed Precipitation, Meet Minneapolis...and the list goes on!

5.) The New Northrop.
Once Northrop reopens in 2013/2014 after its much-needed revitalization, its
bright new future will be realized through extensive programming, exhilarating
performances, and a state-of-the-art building that serves a variety of
purposes, both educational and artistic. I can't wait!

Happy Thanksgiving!
