Welcome to Northrop’s 2019-20 Season, which features its signature Dance Series, a Music Series, and two Special Events. The Dance Series comprises 10 renowned dance companies in performances ranging from the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre’s The Great Gatsby to Ballet West dancing George Balanchine’s famous Jewels. Contemporary performances include Mark Morris Dance Group’s Pepperland, renowned works by both Paul Taylor and Martha Graham dance companies, tap dance by Dorrance Dance, hip-hop-influenced pieces by A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, and international flavors from Teaċ Daṁsa, Black Grace, and The State Ballet of Georgia.
The Music Series is a trio of events spotlighting Northrop’s restored pipe organ in concerts by Branford Marsalis with organist Jean-Willy Kunz, holiday favorites played by The Chenault Duo, and the Minnesota Orchestra featuring revolutionary organist Cameron Carpenter. Northrop’s Special Events feature University of Minnesota favorites: The 58th Annual Marching Band Indoor Concert, and University Organist Dean Billmeyer in a faculty concert.
