10-11 Northrop Dance Season Kick-Off Party

If you've been saving your excitement about the 10-11 Northrop Dance Season until now, here's your chance to let it all hang out with people who are just as excited about it as you are! Join us for our Season Kick-Off Party on Fri, Sep 24 from 5:30-7:30 pm before the bound-to-be amazing performance of Tania Pérez-Salas Compañia de Danza.

Guess who's joining us? Charanga Tropical, a
favorite of our Summer at Northrop concert series. With their salsa fever inducing Caribbean tunes, there are sure to be hips swinging. We're even bringing in some of the best salsa dancers in the Twin Cities to help loosen up
the crowd and show how it's done. There will also be grub and drink for purchase for those who salsa up their appetite.

In case you just can't wait to get started on the surrounding events, join us for the Artist Interview with Tania Pérez-Salas on Thu, Sep 23 at noon. Stay after the performance for another free event, the U of M Grito y Fiesta de Danza. We've planned this special grito (the Mexican cry for independence from Spain) with a couple other like-minded, community savvy organizations: the Consulate of México in St. Paul, Minnesota and the U of M Department of Chicano Studies. The dance party continues with KFAI's Radio Pocho: DJ Miguel Vargas. If you got your fill of salsa, try the bachata, cumbia, merengue, or samba. Also don't miss the awesomeness of the art installation Seaworthy after the performance.

Why the big hullabaloo? Because here at Northrop, we're all about bringing communities together to share in the artistic experiences that Northrop has to offer. It's also a great
opportunity to celebrate Mexico's independence with Mexico 2010. And who doesn't want an excuse to get their cha-cha-cha on?
