In an interview with Emily Johnson and her creative partner, James Everest, James explains that SHORE is not: “I parked my car, I bought my ticket, I went in, I walked out.” Emily Johnson/Catalyst’s SHORE is not separate from, but rather integrated in daily life. It is a multi-day performance installation made up of four parts: dance, story, volunteerism, and feasting. Participants of SHORE interact with Emily Johnson/Catalyst, the work, the river, the community, and more.

SHORE: STORY took place Tuesday night at The Loft Literary Center and featured curated readings by local artists Jayal Chung, Paula Cisewski, Heid Erdrich, Brett Elizabeth Jenkins, R. Vincent Moniz, Jr., Marcie Rendon, and Ben Weaver.

Emily says something she values and honors about performance is that the part of “gathering hasn’t happened until it happens. Whoever chose to come, that’s that moment, and it will never happen again – that particular group of people in one space will probably never happen again.” Although, because SHORE is an immersive experience over several days, some may not be able to attend all four parts. For this reason, SHORE: STORY has been recorded so you are able to gain ideas, references, and context to experience the performance, community action, and/or the feast!
