Learn & Engage

U of M Students

Northrop is a hub for culture, conversation, and creativity, and provides opportunities for students on campus to experience and participate in unique arts and learning experiences. Students gather at Northrop for dance performances, lectures, concerts, film screenings, and other arts-related events, as well as convocations, graduation, and other student ceremonies and activities. Many great study and collaboration spaces are also available throughout the building.

See a Show with Discounts to Northrop Performances

Being a student has its perks, and an affordable ticket to Northrop events is one of them! We have several ways for you to attend an event for a reduced price, or for free!

This program is for new students (freshmen, graduate, professional, and transfer), staff, and faculty. Welcome to your first year at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. We invite you to explore Northrop often during your time at the U and the first show is on us! Choose any in-person performance in the 2023-24 Northrop Season. We hope you will join us to experience all Northrop that has to offer during your time here.

Contact the Box Office at 612-624-2345 with your U Card number to reserve your First Year Free Ticket. Limited to one event.

*The First-Year Free Ticket program is made possible, in part, by the generous support from David and Naomi Balto.

U of M students save $5 on single tickets to any Northrop Season event, or 15% off a Choose Your Own Package. Some exclusions apply.

University students are eligible for $10 Rush tickets for Northrop Season performances on the day of the show. Based on availability for in-person events only.

Discounts for events outside of the Northrop Season may be offered by the presenter of those events. Visit Northrop’s Upcoming Events to learn more about pricing and discounts specific to those offerings.

Rapid Rush is available to University of Minnesota students for selected events that are not included in the Northrop Season. Rapid Rush tickets are $20 (inclusive of fees) and go on sale 30 min before the event's start time. Rapid Rush tickets are based on availability. Because Rapid Rush is only sold on a case-by-case basis, it will be noted on the individual event page and announced on Northrop's social media. Students may get one or two tickets with valid U Card, depending on the event.

Study at Northrop

Meet classmates or study solo in one of Northrop’s six student study lounges. Located at the southeast and southwest corners of floors one through three, these comfortable spaces offer natural sunlight and video monitors connectable via built-in HDMI cables that can be used for collaborative presentations. In addition to the study lounges, there are tables and chairs on the second and third floors of Northrop with beautiful windows overlooking Northrop Mall and Coffman Memorial Union. Pro Tip: Check out the fourth floor lounges.
