Join members of the Dance Theatre of Harlem for a fun, accessible introduction to the art of ballet. In this lecture demonstration, the dancers pull back the curtain to reveal how the elements of classical ballet training, choreography, and theatrical production come together to create the magic of a ballet performance. The hour-long program is divided into three sections: a brief history of DTH and the art form of ballet, demonstrations of basic ballet training (barre, women’s pointe work, men’s center work, pirouettes, and lifts) and stagecraft, followed by four excerpts from the Dance Theatre of Harlem repertoire.
