Thank goodness for Robert Joffrey, the visionary whose taste in ballet has given America a company that revives truly great dances of the 20th century and commissions emerging choreographers just when they’re making a break for the big-time.
Just how many dances can one company acquire? The Joffrey has danced 186 by 67 different choreographers, and Robert Joffrey sees no end to collecting, creating and re-constructing.
Ever since The Joffrey came to Northrop on its first tour in 1956, audiences here have been treated to consistently outstanding programs. Each performance comes with the assurance of a wide spectrum of dance, all deftly presented by a company of wonderfully gifted dancers.
