During this workshop, recitalist, Wanamaker Organist, and accomplished silent film accompanist Peter Richard Conte, will work with organists, pianists, and other musicians to share techniques and approaches to accompany silent films. The workshop will include a short demonstration of Conte’s own silent film accompaniment, followed by advice on improvisation and researching period-appropriate melodies. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to try their hand(s) at accompanying sections of the Charlie Chaplin film, The Kid, with feedback from Conte about their technique and artistry. This workshop is open for registration to the general public and recommended for practicing musicians, filmmakers, and silent film aficionados.
