You are invited to an organ recital and open house to kick off the School of Music’s fundraising campaign to purchase a Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ.

In collaboration with Arnold Organs and Evensong Music, the University of Minnesota School of Music and Ted Mann Concert Hall plan to purchase a Virtual Pipe Organ which mirrors the layout, functionality, and sound resources of the Northrop Aeolian-Skinner Opus 892 pipe organ. In addition to serving the educational needs of the University of Minnesota School of Music, this instrument will be available for all organizations that use Ted Mann Concert Hall.

To demonstrate the enormous potential of the Hauptwerk Virtual Pipe Organ, Arnold Organs has generously provided a 4-manual organ for the recital. Greg Zelek, Principal Organist of the Madison Symphony Orchestra and Curator of the Overture Concert Organ, will present a mini-recital using a wide range of sound samples to demonstrate the unique flexibility of the instrument to play music from all periods.

Following the performance, audiences are invited to a reception with light refreshments and provide guests with the opportunity to meet Matt Arnold of Arnold Organs and Greg Zelek, and to seek answers to any questions which may remain following the program.

This demonstration will make you want to play the instrument, so bring your organ shoes and sheet music so you can try out one or more of the organ sample sets from baroque, French Symphonic, English, or American Classic instruments.
