Regina Carter Quintet

Past event
Apr 15, 2004

With the jazz world registering the magnitude of violinist/bandleader Regina Carter's extraordinary talent, it's a pleasure to welcome her blues-based spunk and originality to the Northrop Jazz Season. A prodigy who was writing her own music at age 4, Carter absorbed rich classical, jazz, and pop influences growing up in Detroit. Last year she was the first nonclassical musicianinvited to play composer Niccolò Paganini's 250-year-old violin. In this concert Carter performs with David Budway, piano; Chris Lightcap, bass; Alvester Garnett, drums; and Mayra Casales, percussion.

Critic's Comments

"She demonstrates violin grace and elegance on lyrical numbers, but is also drawn to exploring the abrasive end of the violin's sonic spectrum."
