A Splash of Summer
Does your summer need a 'splash' of flavor? Are you a poet, musician or fan of urban arts? Join Voices Merging Friday, July 29th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm for "A Splash of Summer," our Open Mic at Northrop Plaza, presented as a part of the Summer Music Festival at Northrop.
Voices Merging (VM) is a student based art coalition at the University of Minnesota. Much of our work is focused on writing and performing poetry and fosters many other forms of urban art. More than just an artists' collaborative, VM is also very involved in the local community--volunteering, and performing all over the Twin Cities. Our most popular outlet for this community support is through our regular Open Mics throughout the year.
Our feature artists for the event include Mac Milli, Champagne Hale, and Alaina Carrion. Mac Milli is a local hip-hop artist from St. Paul, who got much of his start by performing in front of VM's Open Mic audiences and quickly became a crowd favorite. Hale is a 20 year-old model and jewelry maker (who even writes poetry in her spare time) from Minneapolis. She will be hand-making hemp necklaces and selling them, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to charity. Carrion is an artist and Humboldt High School senior who will be drawing an original piece live at the event.
The event is open to ALL performers who would like to hit the stage and sign-ups begin 30 minutes prior.
