Five Fast Facts: RUBBERBAND 

RUBBERBAND, led by Victor Quijada, performs a unique hybrid of breakdance, classical ballet, and dance theater, a style of dance new to audiences that has been described as explosive, “Their bodies channel dynamic, liquid grace one moment, then hit a sharp elbow punch the next.” (Dance Magazine)

Artistic director and choreographer Victor Quijada was born and raised in Los Angeles and grew up dancing in the b-boy circles and hip hop clubs in the city. He then moved to New York City to join THARP!, followed by stints with Ballet Tech and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. Quijada has referred to RUBBERBAND’s unique style as “a way to bring the two parts of me together.”

RUBBERBAND uses its own unique movement style, developed by Victor Quijada, known as the RUBBERBAND Method. This blend of urban and contemporary dance is now taught internationally in master classes, workshops, and university programs.

Vic’s Mix, which premiered in 2016 as part of the Festival International Dans Encore in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, features choreography set to music by Bach, Prokofiev, and Jasper Gahunia, among others.
