Visiting Artists

Northrop engages visiting artists to provide experiences on campus, online, and in the community through its 2023-24 Season events. This programming has a current focus on dance—including all genres, with a special emphasis on ballet and contemporary dance—as well as Northrop’s restored pipe organ. During their time with Northrop, visiting artists typically provide performances, pre- and post-show conversations, and engagement activities like workshops, classes, and/or panel discussions. Many visiting artists work directly with campus and community partners, in addition to their public activities.

Northrop Residencies

Occasionally, Northrop partners with visiting artists with extended residencies. These may include:

Technical residencies, in which Northrop provides additional time on stage with our professional technical staff to start, continue, or finish the process of preparing a work to be performed on stage.
Engagement residencies, in which visiting artists spend an extended period of time working with campus and community partners on creative process or other projects.

Centennial Commissions

As we excitedly prepare for Northrop’s 100th Anniversary in 2029, some of our visiting artists are creating new work, with support from Northrop, in the form of Northrop Centennial Commissions. This program provides support for new dance works, elevates artists across the country, and works collaboratively with companies and artists to amplify their work for years to come.
