2021-22 Northrop Film Series

Focusing on Dance for the Camera in 2021-22

Through the 2020 pandemic, and forced venue closures, live performances came to an abrupt pause, but creativity continued in full force within the dance community. Staying at home prompted artists to reexamine their art-making practices, leading to an artistic revolution that inspired groundbreaking virtual work previously unanticipated. Each organization featured in Northrop’s 2021-22 Film Series explored the art form of Dance for the Camera, found ways in which to practice, construct, and share their creative endeavors despite the difficult restrictions, and utilized art as a way to heal, connect, and engage with one another during an isolating time. Not only do these films consist of breathtaking movement and choreography, but visually astounding cinematography helped bring these pieces to life, sharing the work from a different perspective beyond the stage. The pandemic greatly affected arts organizations in devastating ways, but these artists actively chose to persevere and continue crafting their missions through an unfamiliar and challenging period of our global society.

Northrop’s 2021-22 Film Series features five events that put dance at the center of these cinematic creations. Select your own price ($0-$50) to screen films online—the ticket revenue will be shared with the artists. All screenings are available on-demand with extended viewing dates for your flexibility.
